Until the middle 1800s you could not buy paint commercially. So the colonists had to make their own and they used a recipe that dates back to Ancient Egypt.

The Old-fashioned Milk Paint Company imitates this formula of milk protein, quicklime, and earth pigments. Other modern paint cannot match the color, texture and overall look of this paint. Milk paint will not fade, is nontoxic and environmentally friendly.
