Sack Back
New York Sidechair

The Sack Back originated in Philadelphia and was most popular from 1760-1780, as seen in the preserved Independence Hall pictured below. The story behind its name is that the owners would hang a sack made from decorative cloth on the chair's back during cold weather to prevent drafts. Hence the name "sack back."

This Sack Back features:

-Seven (7) spindles
-Steam-bent arm rail and bow
-A very comfortable oval seat that is deeply saddled
-Leg turnings in the baluster style
-Carved knuckles available (+$125)

The Sack Back is a functional chair that looks great anywhere: by itself, in a dining set, around a table, in a living room, in the home or in a social hall.
