| The Writing Arm Chair has much in common with the comb back. The most obvious difference is the addition of a writing surface. The Writing Arm Chair is probably the most functional piece of furniture ever made. Its distinguishing feature is a flat paddlelike piece of wood, also called a writing tablet, mounted to one arm of the chair (usually the right arm). It is thought to have originated in Philadelphia around the year 1760-1765. This version features a "D" shaped seat and baluster style turnings, and is extremely comfortable. |
